Mens Fertility
Low sperm count and infertility in men is more common than most couples think. People tend to think that if a woman is not getting pregnant then fertility issue must be with the woman, but that is not necessarily always the case. There is an equal chance that the male factor infertility can be the cause of a couple’s difficulty in achieving pregnancy.
Common causes of low sperm count
Cigarette smoking
Pesticides and hormones in foods
Soy foods, especially highly processed soy
Alcohol
Plastics
Over heating
Stress, probably the biggest cause of many health complaints
Diet & Nutrition
Diet can play a huge part in improving fertility and improving sperm count. We suggest that is takes around 3 months to see improvements from diet changes and supplementation.
Zinc: In men, zinc is considered one of the most important trace minerals for fertility and increasing zinc levels in infertile men has been shown to boost sperm levels, improve the form, function and quality of the sperm thus decreasing male infertility. As men age zinc naturally depletes from their body so supplementation is generally suggested of eating more zinc rich foods.
Food sources: Calf liver, oysters, beef, lamb, venison, sesame seeds, pumpkin seeds, yogurt, turkey, peas, and shrimp.
Vitamin C – For men, vitamin C has been shown to improve sperm quality and protect sperm from DNA damage; helping to reduce the chance of miscarriage. Vitamin C also appears to keep sperm from clumping together, making them more motile.
Food sources: Abundant in plants and fruits including red peppers, broccoli, cranberries, cabbage, potatoes, tomatoes, and citrus fruit.
5 diet tips:
Eat real foods. Think meats, vegetables, fruits, eggs, nut and seeds basically nothing processed and try your best to buy organic or as much as possible.
Avoid soy products. Anyone who knows me, I don’t like soy and its not your friend when it comes to fertility.
Avoid alcohol
Eat more fibre! This will help clear out any excess hormones from your body, try adding slippery elm or psyllium husks into your diet.
Cleanse your liver.
