How To Inject A Little Health Into Your Christmas Day.

What does Christmas day mean to you? I think if I asked that question to 20 people there would be 20 different meanings. For me, Christmas means time well spent with family and of course the Christmas ham, but for others, I think they just live for the Christmas feast and presents.

Just because Christmas is often associated with food doesn’t mean you have to overindulge in unhealthy treats, I believe you can still maintain balance while partaking in festivities.

If you are wanting to maintain balance over Christmas, try following some of these tips:

Start with a banging breaky

I’m all about starting your day with a really healthy, jam-packed full of nutrients breakfast. Why you ask? Because if you start your day in a healthy way you are more likely to eat healthy for the rest of the day. A nutritious breakfast will lead to a fuller, more satisfied you, which ultimately leads to less snacking! Stay tuned for next weeks blog which will include the perfect Christmas day smoothie.

Avoid the sugary sweets

We all know with Christmas comes chocolate, lollies, and home-baked goods. Try and avoid the bowls of chocolate or lollies, why not make your own and take it with you, everyone will be thrilled if you put together a beautiful bowl of fresh fruit and dark chocolate.

Don't overfill your plate

Don’t overfill your plate at lunch and dinner. Simply take what you feel and if you are still hungry you can always go back for seconds. Remember Christmas is a great time to catch up with family and friends, so sit down and enjoy the meal and conversation, don't rush! I spoke about this in last weeks blog- read that here!

Mix a Mocktail

Soft drinks and many alcoholic beverages are riddled with sugar. Why not switch it up with a Kombucha Mocktail? or simply add Soda Water and mixed Fruit together for a bubbly, and satisfying refreshment! Keen to make a batch of Mocktails- this recipe will be sure to delight.

Christmas Watermelon Mocktail (Serves 8)

1 Watermelon

Juice of 1 Lemon

1 x 650ml bottle of plain Kombucha

500mls soda water

Juice of 1 Lime

A large handful of Mint (roughly chopped)

A large handful of Ice

Step 1: cut the rind off the Watermelon and place the flesh into a blender

Step 2: Place the Lemon and Lime juice in the blender with the Watermelon and blend until smooth

Step 3: Mix in the Kombucha, Soda Water, Ice and Mint with the Watermelon and pour into a nice serving jug to serve.

** if you are feeling a little naughty and would like it to be an alcoholic drink you can add a little Vodka
