Hormone Imbalance Part 1

As I see more patients I am feeling there is a need for women to know what is normal with their hormones and what isn’t.

I want women to be more aware of their hormones and be more open to discuss these issues with their friends, family and health professionals. Let’s change the stigma that that period pain is not normal, let’s not be embarrassed to talk about it and let’s get the help you need.

Did you know that 80% of women suffer from some type of hormone imbalance?

Today’s post is going to discuss the signs and symptoms that’s are associated with hormonal imbalances. So the symptoms that we are talking about are:

  • Moodiness

  • Bad PMS

  • Painful periods

  • Ovulation pain

  • This is a clear indication that you are suffering from oestrogen dominance

  • Hair falling out

  • Brain fog

  • Acne

  • Due to an abundant level of testosterone levels in the body

  • Low libido

  • Low progestogen in women and low testosterone in men. For women we can see this when one is coming into menopause as the progestogen levels are in a natural decline

  • Night sweats

  • Night sweats occur when there is a reduced level of progesterone but they also may be experiencing an oestrogen dominance.

  • Fatigue

  • Insulin resistance could be to blame

  • Insomnia

  • For women it is the low progesterone levels that are causing a poor night’s sleep.

  • Cravings

  • Weight gain

  • If you’re doing all the right things eating well, exercising and stress isn’t effecting you then your thyroid could be a problem.

If you have a combination of these symptoms it would be a good idea to investigate further. You can also get blood tests or saliva tests which can confirm if your hormones are out of balance and give a bigger picture to what is going on. The sooner we start addressing these issues the better so they don’t manifest into anything more serious.

The longer we live with these symptoms of hormone imbalances the higher the chance these conditions can progress into things like, PCOS, endometriosis, fibrods, infertility the list goes on.

Now how do we fix these issue? Well the pill isn’t always the answer, it will only suppress the underlying issue. There are many lifestyle changes we can make to keep our hormones happy as well as herbs that can get your hormones back on track which we will be talking about in the next blog post.
